Breaking News: Hiram Samuel Lyodi Calls for Full access and transparent publication of the 31,653 record sheets used to declare the election results

In a solemn and impassioned address to the nation, Hiram Samuel Lyodi, candidate in Cameroon’s 2025 presidential election, has broken his silence following the controversial proclamation of results by the Constitutional Council. His statement, delivered with clarity and conviction on 30 October 2025, speaks to the heart of a nation grappling with grief, anger, and a renewed call for justice.

Below is the full/rephrased address

Address to the Citizens

Dear Cameroonians, Fellow Patriots,

On October 12th, nearly five million of us responded to the call to vote. Across the national territory and within the diaspora, we expressed our collective desire for change through the ballot box.

Foreseeing the risks of a post-electoral crisis, I had already called—prior to the proclamation of results—for the respect of the sovereign will of the People.

Yet on October 27th, the Constitutional Council proclaimed an unappealable result, sparking profound anger and incomprehension among a large portion of Cameroonians. Since then, our streets have been set ablaze, our cities are mourning, and sons and daughters of Cameroon are unjustly losing their lives.

This tragedy questions our national conscience: would people who freely elected a candidate, in the same breath, choose to die in the streets, protesting their own victory?

Confronted with the harsh reality of seven additional years under a regime that has failed to uphold its promises, of accountability in public management, moral integrity, and national emergence, we must ask: how can we remain silent? How can we not cry out in pain?

From Douala to Bertoua, Garoua to Bafoussam, Maroua to Yaoundé, Ngaoundéré to Buea, and beyond, thousands of Cameroonians have risen to express their indignation and reject this imposed fate. This right is enshrined in our Constitution and in the international conventions our country has ratified.

I deplore the repressive violence exerted by certain units of our security forces in response to the legitimate aspirations of citizens who mobilized peacefully. These actions have resulted in serious injuries and, tragically, loss of human life.

I also condemn the acts of vandalism committed by a minority—whether through excess or manipulation—that betray the spirit of these mobilizations.

To all bereaved families, and to those whose bodies have borne the suffering of the Nation, I extend my most sincere and fraternal compassion.

I commend those among the defense and security forces who, as true Patriots, have shown exemplary conduct—escorting and supporting protesters until peaceful dispersal, sometimes at the risk of their own safety. Your dignity and professionalism honor your oath of loyalty to the Republic.

To all parties involved: let us act responsibly to preserve our shared achievements. Let us not destroy lives or the hard-won fruits of our fellow citizens’ labor.

Your next actions will determine the fate of an entire nation.

I call for:

  • Full access and transparent publication of the 31,653 record sheets used to declare the election results
  • An immediate end to police brutality, arbitrary arrests, and extrajudicial executions
  • The unconditional release of all political and opinion prisoners
  • The guaranteed protection of freedom of expression and peaceful protest

These are the only sustainable ways out of this post-electoral crisis.

To the People of Cameroon—the Only Legitimate Sovereign—I reaffirm my commitment to remain loyal to you and to stand by your side. Our duty as political leaders is to serve you, never to undermine you.

May God and our Ancestors watch over Cameroon. Hiram Samuel Lyodi
